DuBois Central Catholic School students in 8th grade DECA class entered in the “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” video contest for the first time ever - and came home with a trophy! For their entry, the class created a video explaining Atlas Pressed Metal’s manufacturing process. They began the process last fall, when they visited Atlas Pressed Metals in DuBois, and compiled over six hours of audio and video recordings about the manufacturing process. From those hours of video, they created a 2.5-minute video entry for the contest.
On March 20, the class met with other participating schools throughout the North Central region to attend a day-long conference and award ceremony. The conference, sponsored by Workforce Solutions for North Central PA, took place at the Red Fern Inn in St. Marys. During the day-long event, students met representatives from local manufacturing companies and enjoyed hands-on activities, all revolving around education and careers in manufacturing.
Video award winners were announced during the afternoon award ceremony. DuBois Central Catholic students were surprised and honored to win the prize for best videography. You can see the video here: https://youtu.be/3rF5Yj8WmgQ. They already are working on plans to make an even better video next year.
These annual contests excite students to explore cool manufacturing careers and produce profiles of companies. Each contest features an online vote for its Viewer’s Choice Award. The North Central (PA) Contest is produced by Workforce Solutions for North Central PA in Kersey, PA.
