With a final score of 46-29 against Otto-Eldred, the Lady Cardinals Varsity Basketball team brought home the PIAA District 9 Class A championship plaque, a well deserved recognition for a season of hard work and discipline. The team practiced and strategized under the direction of coach Jordan Hoover with their accomplishments not going unnoticed by family, community, faculty, staff and fellow students who have cheered them on.
But what really defines this victory? It can be defined by the development of work ethic, positive attitudes displayed behind the scenes, camaraderie that often goes unseen, and of course, strategy. When egos are set aside and a team culture can be built, the journey will always be a memorable one, as is the case for the Lady Cardinals.
"I think coming into the year, we knew we had the athletes to be really good defensively, and they have bought into it. They will tell you I constantly preach at practice that its the defensive end, specifically rebounding. When we do that well, and we did it moderately well tonight (against Otto-Eldred), we think we are in good shape." As the Lady Cardinals advance to compete in the state championship games, it is clear they will be a force to be reckoned with no matter the outcome. Hoover said it best, "It's been a really good journey, with the ups and downs. These kids have put in a lot of work."
On behalf of DCC, congratulations to the Lady Cardinals for their court accomplishments, but most importantly, for how they represent themselves and their school.
