DuBois Central Catholic middle school students have worked hard to create this video featuring Atlas Pressed Metals: https://youtu.be/3rF5Yj8WmgQ?feature=shared

Students visited the Atlas facility several times to learn about the company and about the pressed metal manufacturing and machining process.  They compiled over six hours of audio and video recordings to create a 2.5-minute video featuring what they learned. Olivia McLean explained, “We went to the factory and met with the CEO and employees.  They showed us how the factory operates.  The manufacturing process is very interesting.”  Students were surprised by the cleanliness of the factory floor and the level of automation at the factory.  “It’s much cleaner than I expected,” said Sophie Bender. According to Julian Swisher, “Robotic arms do a lot of the work. They even have a camera that can tell which items aren’t acceptable.  A machine blows them off the line immediately.”

The DECA students are grateful for the time and resources Atlas Pressed Metals has donated to the students’ project.  According to the Atlas Pressed Metal company website, the company, based in DuBois, Pennsylvania, USA, is a manufacturer of precision sintered metal products. The company manufactures complex and simple structural iron, sinter-hardened steel, stainless, copper, brass, and bronze components utilizing the pressed metal (also known as sintered metal or powdered metal) process.

The annual “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing” contest, created by the Manufacturer’s Resource Center and managed in the North Central PA region by Workforce Solutions for North Central PA, invites students to explore and produce a video profile of a local manufacturing company.  In late March, prizes for best video and viewer’s choice will be awarded in the North Central Workforce Development Area encompassing McKean, Potter, Cameron, Elk, Jefferson and Clearfield Counties.
